Arrest 2 Release is a vital new digital resource helping women navigate every stage of the criminal justice system, from arrest to release. The vision is to provide ‘sliding door moments’ that prompt women to take a step towards a positive outcome. It is the brainchild of Belle Walker, a formerly incarcerated woman and current Advocacy and Development Officer for the KWOOP Coalition (Keeping Women Out of Prison). This site is a powerful example of lived experience driving systemic change.
We were honoured to be chosen to bring this project to life — collaborating with Belle, pro bono UX designer Frances Miller, and a range of justice and support services to transform hundreds of hours of consultation into a trusted, trauma-aware digital experience.
The Challenge
The content, structure and safety features of this site needed to meet the needs of women at risk, in custody, or returning home. That meant a mobile-first build, lightning-fast load times, accessibility compliance, discreet branding, and ultra-clear pathways through complex and confronting information.
All while working with a stretched team, tight timeline, and deep emotional investment from every stakeholder involved.
